Reesa Merrilee Dickerson

Just a little update: Reesa Merrilee has arrived! We went to the hospital Monday morning at 7:30 to be induced. I was a day over and wasn't dilating still, so it was time to get her moving. They put me on Pitocin when we got there and waited to see how things started working. I started having contractions but nothing huge. The doctor came in to check a couple times and I was only a 2 - 2 1/2, that means it was time to break my water. That was lovely. After that my contractions got much stronger and more frequent, but I still was only dilated to a 3 is. Things were going slow, but I wanted to see how much I could do. The nurse and doctor suggested an epidural to help me relax and get further along, so at about 8/8:30 I got and epidural. It took a few more hours but I finally got to a 9. Then the babies heart rate started to get really fast. The doctor came in and checked me. I was still a 9 and things were getting a little tense. We had two options: we could insert a catheter that would put some liquid in with the baby and help her to calm down; if that didn't work we would have to have a c-section. That was worrisome, but luckily the catheter worked. About an hour later, we were pushing and in about 10 minutes, Reesa Merrilee was here. We were so glad that everything went well and that we have a very healthy baby. She was born at 4:04 a.m., weighed 8 lbs 1 oz, was 20 1/2 inches long and very cute. She looks a lot like Tad or at least a Dickerson. I love having her and already cannot imagine life any different. Afton has been such a good big sister and loves to hold her hand. For the most part, she is getting tons of attention from my family and so that has her distracted a bit.
So this is what's been going on and I might not be blogging for a while, but enjoy the pix!

What was she thinking?!

Yesterday, we had quite the experience at church. First of all, it was Stake Conference so Afton was getting a bit antsy. I decided it was time for a snack for her so I gave her a little baggie of raisins. She was sitting on Tad's lap just chillin', eating her raisins. About 10 minutes later she turns to me and says, "Raisins." I said, "Yeah, you're eating raisins." She replies with, "Nose." She likes to point out her body parts so I glanced at her nose...nothing that I could see. Then 5 minutes later she starts getting fussy, red-eyed, and rubbing her nose. She sneezes and out pops half of a raisin! I grab her and run (as fast as you can in the middle of a church meeting being 8 1/2 months pregnant) to the bathroom. My mind is racing trying to figure out how to get who knows how many raisins out of Afton's nose. All I could think was just make her sneeze them out, so I keep rubbing her nose. Out come two more raisins. I tried to look up her nose and see if there were more, but I couldn't see much in that light. I think we got them all out and hope she didn't shove some up to her brain! All I want to know is how in the world did she get the idea to put raisins up her nose and what did she think was so fun about that.

Halloween!

This Halloween was a little sporadic for us, but it was still fun. We had a ward party on Thursday and Afton was Boo from Monster's Inc. She looked perfect! I was going to be Sylia and Tad was going to be Mike but we didn't have enough time to do our costumes. We made dessert for the ward party and just went and had a fun time watching Afton play around. On Halloween morning, we carved our pumpkins and I have to day I'm quite proud of us. We did a pretty good job! Afton thought all the gook inside was pretty gross so it was funny to watch her act like she liked playing with it. We were going to take her trick-or-treating but it was cold and she liked opening the door for all the trick-or-treaters and giving them some treats. We did teach her to say trick-or-treat, which was the cutest thing ever. All in all it was a pretty good day. Tad's pumpkin was this wolf and mine was the witch, but that picture isn't loading now. I'll see if I can't get it up later with more pictures and a video of Afton.

Also, some updates: I had to go to the doctor's again on Friday because he was going out of town this week so he went ahead to check and see if I'm progresssing. I'm dilated to a one and 50% effaced. Not huge news, but it's more than when I was prego with Afton. Reesa is such a mover who knows what will happen. So the next couple weeks could bring a new baby into our family! We are excited!
